Telcare’s Market: Worldwide, there are more that 100 million addressable patients with diabetes, 28 million of whom are in the U.S. Current global sales for diabetes testing solutions exceed $12 billion. All U.S. health insurers, both public and private, and all EU, Canadian, and GCC health insurers reimburse for diabetes testing. Telcare’s business model is to replace legacy, unconnected solutions within the current reimbursement guidelines and at the current price points. Insurers have an overwhelming incentive to improve the quality of and compliance with diabetes testing, since the data overwhelmingly show a huge reduction in costs (around $4000/yr in the US) associated with compliance in patients with diabetes.

The Challenge of Diabetes: Compliance with care is well known to reduce the incidence of diabetes complications, most notably stroke, heart attack, retinal hemorrhage, and amputation. Even a 10% improvement in glucose control reduces incidence of complications by 37%. Today, patients are seen episodically by caregivers and expected to comply with complicated regimens of testing and treatment. Telcare’s solution constantly monitors the patient’s compliance and provides ongoing caregiver coaching and feedback at the moment of care, when it is most likely to be effective.

Telcare’s Solution: The Telcare BGM is the world’s first cellular-enabled glucose meter, with embedded cellular technology. This FDA-regulated class II medical device is paired with Telcare’s back-end clinical server and a suite of smartphone apps in order to provide a complete ecosystem of care. The server connects directly to electronic medical record systems, while the phone apps are used by parents of children with diabetes and those caring for elderly people with diabetes. The solution is FDA- and HIPAA- compliant.
